When to Use an Econ Button

If you have gotten behind the wheel of a Dodge or a Chrysler minivan recently, you likely have noticed the Econ button. But when do you use an Econ button and what does it do?
Here at Woodhouse Chrysler Dodge Jeep® RAM, our dealers often receive these questions from inquisitive drivers, and we’re happy to answer them.
What is the Econ Button?
Before answering, we should first explain exactly what the Econ button does. The Econ button is typically located on your car’s dashboard and is used to adjust the engine timing and the transmission shift points so that they maximize fuel economy.
When you press this button, you may notice that the car feels a little bit slower. This is due to the fact that it limits the amount of fuel injected into the engine so that there is less fuel waste.
When to Press the Econ Button?
Because the role of the Econ button is to save on fuel and maximize efficiency, you should press it when you’re more concerned about saving fuel than getting maximum performance out of your Dodge car. Pressing the Econ button will likely save you money at the pump.
Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid
Though it does not come with an Econ button, the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid is one of the best fuel-sipping minivans on the market.
It features a system that detects when it is best to use electricity or gasoline and seamlessly switches between the two driving ranges. The total range of the minivan is 520 miles, with an electric-only range of 32 miles.
