Now is the time to think about trading in a car that eats up gas quickly with one that’s more fuel-efficient. This is why many people are opting for plug-in hybrid (PHEV) vehicles. If you’re in this group, it is a good idea to know how these work and what PHEV charging involves.

PHEV vs. Hybrid

Regular hybrid models come with a gas engine, motor, and battery pack. The battery gets recharged by using the energy produced during braking.

PHEV models also have an engine, motor, and battery pack. And while the battery can be charged through regenerative braking (the same way as a regular hybrid), it can also get juiced up by plugging it in.

Using a Home Charger

The nice thing about keeping a plug-in hybrid charged is that you can do it without any real work, as a regular home outlet will get it charged up. The Jeep® Wrangler 4xe, for example, will get its battery fully charged in about 12 hours with this type of outlet.

For a much quicker charge, you’ll want to consider having a Level 2 outlet installed by an electrician. This would get your Jeep Wrangler 4xe fully charged in less than 2.5 hours.
